The 10th Pongal Festival recently held at Kampung Sungai Kayu Ara was organized by ADUN Bukit Lanjan, Elizabeth Wong and Pertubuhan Kebajikan Kaum India dan Badan-badan Gabungan Lebuh Bandar Utama – Kampung Sg Kayu Ara.
The Member of Parliament for Subang, Sivarasa Rasiah) attended the celebration too.
Pongal is a harvest festival held to honor the Sun, for a bountiful harvest.
Families gather to rejoice and share their joy and harvests with each-other . A “Pongal” offertory in the form of of rice and milk is presented to the Sun.
Literally meaning “Boiling over”, Pongal, signifies the advent of prosperity. Pongal is normally celebrated over a period of four days, starting on the 13th January.
