Singaporean cheated in scratch-and-win scam in Johor Bahru

A 76-year-old Singaporean became the latest victim of a scratch-and-win scam in Johor Baru, recently. The woman lost RM14,500 (S$5,943) after being approached by two men while heading towards the Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex on Dec 19.

After scratching a card, the men told her she had won and to hand over money to stand a chance to win even more prizes.

The deputy chairman of the Johor Baru Malaysian Chinese Association’s Public Complaints Bureau, Michael Tay, warned that Singaporeans were being targeted by the scratch-and-win syndicates, as most locals are aware of them.
