Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) will probe into the motive behind the protest staged by certain quarters against the setting up of a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on illegal immigrants and forged citizenship documents in Sabah.
Sabah State Assembly Deputy Speaker Datuk Johnny Mositun, who is also PBS Information chief, said he was disappointed with those quarters who dared to staged the protest especially after the setting up of the RCI had been approved by the Parliament.
“I think the protest was baseless. Most of the people (in Sabah) agreed with the setting up of the RCI. “We are just concerned about the interests and the rights of the original residents of Sabah,” he told reporters after hosting a Christmas open house yesterday.
He was commenting on the recent protest made by Sandakan-based Rantau Putra Association, which believed that the setting up of the RCI was unconstitutional and unfair.
The association claimed that the illegal immigrants in Sabah comprised mostly refugees who possessed a IMM13 document, while only a small number of them possessed a MyKad.
On Dec 13, Deputy Chief Minister Joseph Pairin Kitingan, who is also PBS President, said that the Parliamentary Select Committee on Electoral Reforms had agreed on the implementation of the 10 proposals, one of which was the setting up of the RCI.
Science, technology and Innovation Minister Dr Maximus Ongkili, who is also PBS deputy president, chairs the committee.

The RCI is needed for Sabah to resolve the illegal immigrant issues once and for all.
Hope that the Federal Government will make a stand about this RCI soon.
A good call for this matter.
those who against the RCI in sabah have their hidden agenda and political interest..
who is the association mentioned by PBS?
its nonsense to say the RCI was unconstitutional and unfair…issuing MyKad through the back doors is unfair to local/pure sabahan..
now its already 2012…what is the govt decision on RCI? and what will PBS do if the govt rejected the RCI? as we all know the 13th general election is just around the corner..
we need the RCI to investigate the project IC…i think there’s no reason why the govt must rejected the proposal except there’s something need to hidden from the public..
those who protest are clearly afraid that the truth will reveal.
the majority has voice out their support towards RCI.. the gov has no choice but to listen to the people.
I hope RCI will be set up as soon as possible. Its bout time to set it up before election comes.
hopefully the federal government will look into this matter with full consideration given the presence stance of Sabah regarding RCI
with the setting up of RCI will give a bird’s eye view regarding the PATI issue in sabah
Kata orang usaha tangga kejayaan.
make sure those oppose the setting up of RCI should be the first to be investigated..
hopefully the federal government will make decision based on the majority voices.. whoever oppose it, the most important is majority Sabahan still support the setting up of RCI..
I support RCI, no matter what
